And off we go...

I’ve decided to jump on the blog bandwagon. There are a couple of reasons I’ve decided to follow some of my current and future Board of Trustees colleagues into the blogosphere and I’d like to take advantage of this initial post to lay out why I’m doing this.

First, while I wasn’t elected by the community to serve on the Board (long story, sure it will come up later), I am accountable to King Farm residents and you all deserve to hear my rationale for taking the stands I will take. Also, I’d like to hear where other residents are on an issue before the Board. All too often the Board is flying blind when it comes to where the community stands on an issue and I hope my little blog can provide some enlightenment for both myself and my neighbors.

Second, one of my pet peeves since joining the Board is the notion held by some that we do everything in lock step. Not true. The Board isn’t this Borg-like collective being that only moves forward on issues once we’ve reached agreement. The Board is composed of five individuals with very different points of view. We try to reach consensus, but occasionally we don’t and you are entitled to know how we arrive to conclusions.

Finally, like many of you, I subscribe to the King Farm Google group. I think the group provides a valuable service to King Farm, but as we’ve been reminded quite a bit lately, it’s not run by the homeowner’s association. I actually enjoy the discussions of King Farm politics on the board, granted I often find them more entertaining than enlightening. However, many of you don’t. And I’d like to steer some of that debate towards the blogs of those picked by the community to serve on the Board. I know lots of folks who go onto the Google group looking for a good restaurant or for someone who can clean gutters have to endure countless posts about what happened at the last Board meeting before finding the information they need. I don’t mind having those discussions here as long as they stay respectful and don’t venture into the absurd.

So thanks for stopping by. I hope this is a useful experiment.
